Looking for the next best thing in TVs? This may be your year. Ushering in a new era of television is LG with the world’s largest and slimmest TV which was unveiled in Monaco a few days ago.

Promising to develop the most advanced commercial OLED TV and bring it to the public before the year ends, LG has showcased an all new 55-inch OLED TV to dealers, journalists, and guests. Compared to LCD or LED TVs, OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays produce their own light and require no backlighting unlike the former two.

The upcoming TV boasts of a 55-inch OLED display with just 4mm thickness thanks to its carbon fiber reinforced plastics exterior which also allows it to weigh only 10kg. It also features:

  • WRGB technology
  • 4 Color Pixel technology brings a perfect color output by relying on a white sub-pixel
  • Color Refiner for pictures that are vibrant, natural, and comfortable to the human eye
  • Plus a combination of Smart TV capabilities and Cinema 3D technology for 3D viewing and internet-related functions
  • No distortion or loss of contrast no matter what angle you watch from or how bright the surrounding lights are

LG’s 55-inch OLED TV is set to grace European stores on the latter half of the year, probably after July, with a tentative price tag lying somewhere around €8,000 ($10,063).
