According to worldstats, there are roughly around 24 million filipino internet users for year 2009. You can’t deny the power of “cyberspace” shaping the culture of pinoy citizens today.
Just in case, you are one of the 24 million people we are talking about. There’s a BIG chance you already encountered a yet another “ayosdito” advertisement. Either in your friendster account, your favorite pinoy blog, a gadget website etc. As long as you are in the Philippines, those “ayosdito ads” are there.
To some users, they see A.D as an innovation and a helpful service for their business while to some it’s a nuisance spam for their everyday browsing.
I guess it’s time to make a review if ayosdito (english translation: Its okay here) really is AYOS DITO!
Ayosdito is a product by a social-media group called 701search.
The said company is a social-media advertising group revolving around asia pacific regions. It’s joint ventured with two other media groups (Singapore Press Holdings Limited, Schibsted ASA). In Malaysia these group already launched a similar advertising model called mudah.my. Currently, its alexa rank in malaysia is no. 14 (meaning top 14 for the most searched websites in Malaysia). Its sources of revenue are through link ads (adsense) and other affiliate programs.
Ayosdito’s features is identical with mudah, except that it doesn’t have any sources of revenue yet. As of this moment, the said site is still concentrating on advertising to gain rank/popularity.
Things that we noticed about ayosdito.ph:
- The whole package of the site is very-simple. It reminds me of craiglist. Technically, its naturally search engine optimized due to it’s “unadorned” attributes. Expect that the loading time of the site is around 2-3 seconds only.
- Using A.D is “retardishly-easy”. No need to log-in: For browsing ads, sending messages even for posting your own ads. There’s no profile involved. You only need to put a password and your e-mail everytime you post an ad for the purpose of getting in touch with other users and for ads deletion in the future. Ayosdito is more of an “open-source” model with a little “sauce”.
- As of this moment, ayosdito.ph is currently ranking top 44 on the most visited websites in the Philippines (e-bay.ph on top 45) It’s driving “massive” traffic on Philppines. It’s serious on advertising and its capacity to advertise on google adwords is obviously not cheap.
On A.D’s homepage, you can notice a “who posted the most ads” type of contest . The prizes ranges from HP notebooks, ipod touch, iphone and a trip for 2 to Hongkong or Singapore. You can see that the developers of ayosdito really mean business!
So how does ayosdito.ph earn?
Through advertisement and affiliate marketing (following the pattern of mudah.my). Its also worth including that the developers of ayosdito is a part of joint-ventured advertising media. Logic, will tell you that they gain profit through “making rise” of a new profitable service.
Is ayosdito made by pinoys?
According to 701search, Jose Manuel “Mannix” Pabalan (one of the general managers) is the one supervising the development of ayosdito in the Philippines. Well, If that’s your definition of “made by pinoys” then YES! though we are hearing a crowd saying “otherwise”.
Is ayosdito better than sulit.com, buyandsellph.com, tipidpc.com etc?
Highly subjective. It’s like you are asking which is better: Windows, Mac OS or Linux/Unix?
Each has their own advantages and disadvantages. You, as a user could weight it and decide which is hanging and which one is falling base on your “standards”.
Wrap-up:
We think ayosdito is yet another advertising media who has a potential of becoming a mogul commercial medium.
You might be overwhelmed with the amount of “ayosdito” ads you see hanging on your screen and think how rich A.D developers could be? Having a threshold to create “immense” geo-targeted advertisements in Philippines. However, to an enthusiast: It’s regular.
Right now, there are thousands of advertisement on the web. Even online games now, are “whoring” google like it’s the next newspaper. We, as the users should understand that these people need to earn money and it’s our choosing whether we click that advertisement or simply close it.
So what do you think, is ayosdito a friend or a foe?
