These news came like an “icing on a cupcake” following Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s open letter discussing how the social media giant will tighten its core privacy settings. According to CNET news, New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo spearheaded the move to lessen the threat of sex offenders proliferating in social media.
More than 3,500 sex offenders on Facebook and MySpace combine had their accounts disabled permanently. Both companies had policies about sex offenders in their system to tract them individually although by using New York’s Electronic Securing and Targeting of Online Predators Act (“E-stop”) identifying perpetrators became easier.
We’ve seen many sexual violence against children and women transpired on several social networking sites. Sex offenders will disguise themselves as a teenager then lure their victims to meet them at a certain location. The victims usually have high inferiority complex, were extreme introverts, shy to mingle with other people or don’t have many friends. These are the type of people sex perpetrators target on facebook, myspace and other forms of social media..
Check the related video report below for more information about this latest feat against crime. Other American states and global countries that permit the use of social media should follow New York’s foot steps to eliminate these pesky sex perpetrators. Security around social networking sites should be more robust because we are in a fast-paced technology where everything changes day after day. Currently, social networking sites still have issues over how to stop identity thefts and related violence. There’s several things to do, but this is great, at least we know someone is doing his/her job to prevent these cyber crimes from happening.
