Okay, let’s get everything straight. The Horus Pyramid iPod Dock Coffee Table is both a coffee table and an iPod dock. It’s shaped like a pyramid (obvious by the name) and it has speakers on the bottom and LED lighting. The designer of this uh, unique furniture is Stephane Thivend. Are you interested in learning more about this one of a kind table/iPod dock? Or do you just want to prove your point that this is one of those concepts that should just stay in the designer’s mind? Read on and decide for yourself.
The design of the Horus Coffee Table/iPod Dock is like being warped into the era of Egyptian Pharaohs and constructions of pyramids. I’m not kidding. The pyramid is made from ultra high performance concrete, which for us, translates to a material that’s pretty much high quality (and not the concrete used by the ancient pharaohs). On this tomb, or should I say dock, you could place your iPod or iPhone on the slot provided. There’s also a power integrated pair of speakers strategically placed underneath and a LED illuminated glass plane bisecting it. Before I forget to mention, the LED light comes in 24 different colors that a pharaoh would approve of. Neat. Can you imagine what I’m describing to you?
The Horus Coffee Table/iPod Dock is actually made for those persons who love, no, worship their iPods or iPhones, literally. They spend money to buy something they could mount their prized possession on. It almost looks like a shrine. That is, for those die-hard iPod enthusiasts.
Yet for us, mere mortals, the coffee table/iPod dock looks like one sick joke. It has “laugh at me” written all over it. I mean, it’s okay to design a dock for iPods and iPhones, no argument there, but the design should match the gadget. It should be modern, sleek and up-to-date. Not ancient and dead. The design and the overall concept are just a bit creepy and weird. Okay, so the designer’s aiming for unique and one of a kind. Something unexpected. But this is way too bizarre to explain. Would you want something like a tomb to be in the middle of your living room? Your hesitation is my answer.
