Upon reading the horrible story of a girl “gang-rape” by 4 suspected individuals including a pack full of loathsome-spectators watching the “dehumanization”, we can’t help but to feel infuriated on how could a group of adolescent individuals do such a vile act? Worse, on a court near the campus where a Saturday night dance was being held.

It’s said that a 15 year old student on Richmond Campus (San Francisco, California) who police said was gang raped in a two-and-a-half-hour assault outside a homecoming dance remained hospitalized in stable condition Monday, two days after she was flown from the attack scene in critical condition. Officers believe as many as a dozen people watched a 15-year-old girl get battered and defiled outside the suburban campus without reporting it.

According to the narration of the police, the girl left the dance and was walking to meet her father for a ride home when a classmate invited her to join a group drinking in the courtyard. The victim had drank a large amount of alcohol by the time the assault began, police said. The girl’s father was looking for her during the attack, according to the LA Times:

Police were finally called after a female student overhead people talking about the rape. She called 911 and told dispatchers what she had heard, Gagan said.

When officers arrived on the scene, the assault was still going on. Several suspects fled as officers found the girl naked from the waist up, Gagan said.

As of late Monday, two suspects had been apprehended in the case and a third was being interrogated.

Richmond police Lt. Johan Simon said.

Nineteen-year-old Manuel Ortega, described as a former student at the school, was arrested soon after he fled the scene and will face charges of rape, robbery and kidnapping, police said.

“Based on witness statements and suspect statements, and also physical evidence, we know that she was raped by at least four suspects committing multiple sex acts,”

According to the investigators as many as 15 male watchers, digested the ravaging done to the girl by the assailants; Surprisingly, no one call police or help the victim.

“As people announced over time that this was going on, more people came to see, and some actually participated,” Gagan said.

The girl will be undergoing an a further medical-examination to see traces of alcohol and if ever there was a scenario that she was drugged.

As for now police officers believe the majority of the watchers have their cellphone video-recording the incident. According to Gagan, “We have checked Facebook and YouTube to try to find any revealing evidence,” he said. “We’re looking in particular to see if anyone posted any video of the incident.”

According to authorities, the victim was flown to an area hospital in critical condition. She was in stable condition Monday, police said.

“This just gets worse and worse the more you dig into it,” Gagan said.

“It was like a horror movie after looking at the evidence. I can’t believe not one person felt compelled to help her.”

The story speaks for itself. With all the body-defiling and dehumanizing atrocities done to the 15 year old girl, its normal for an individual to ask – “Why didn’t the passers-by helped the poor victim?”.

We too, are quite baffled with this story. Could these “observers” be allured of wanting to watch some real-life rape scene? Or perhaps a bigger conspiracy involving these watchers as “tag-mates” so they too, can participate with the sexual-act taking place? Whatever the case maybe, it seems there’s “no penalty” for being an observer of a crime as said by one of the police officers.

Based from the reactions above, logic will simply tell that there should be some revision to the penal-code on providing a proper punishment for those individuals who show no concern on a crime that’s taking place right before their eyes and simply watching it. (if proven guilty by the court)

Update October 28, 2009: A new story unfolds as the alleged rapists who participated with the sexual-act was not 4 but as many as 7 males. Police officers are still finding the other rapists and scrutinizing the ones who were already detained. Here’s the follow-up video:

More updates: According to ABC local news, a 21 year old Richmond resident was arrested today, on a follow-up hunt to finally sweep all the suspects which now believed to be a total of Eight.
