Just recently there was a buzzing news that an eleven-year old girl from the Northeast has given birth to a baby boy. It was claimed by the girl’s parent that their child is okay and that their grandchild is such a beauty.
This piece of news is not at all new since in history, there were already much younger girls (with the youngest ever recorded was 5) who have birthed their own babies.
But what sparks off the interest of the public in this kind of news is the condition of the young mother. Good enough, the 11-year old girl and her baby were both in good conditions after the incident but girls who get pregnant at such fresh years are actually are exposed to various dangers aside from her growth being possibly haltered.
The body of pre-teen girls are not yet prepared to carry a child and thus pregnancy may pose potential harm which includes:
- Vaginal injury during a natural birth
- High risk of preeclampsia, indicated by high blood pressure and protein in the urine, that may lead to convulsions and multi-system organ failure
- Possible pre-term labor and delivery (contributes to baby’s compromised size, developmental issues, fetal growth restraint and chromosomal irregularity
- Incidence of stillbirth(may be caused by cholestasis or blockage of bile)
- Fatal fatty liver
