Abby Sunderland was born on October 19, 1993. She is a solo sailor out to set a world record of being the youngest to sail the seas around the world. She is a sister to Zac Sunderland who recently holds the same world record before he turned 18. But now the 16-year-old girl is out to out-last his brother until she was reportedly missing between Africa and Australia.
Abby’s brother said that she lost contact with her family just this Thursday while she was sailing into a storm and emergency beacons were activated right away. Information at abbysunderland.com update said Australian Search and Rescue are already on their way to set out a search operation regarding her location. The best solution seen is to communicate with her over the radio and provide support to her as needed. It was also a consolation to know that Abby has all the equipment on board to survive any crisis.
Sunderland started her journey last January 23 of this year from Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles, California but because of glitches in her ship she landed on land on February 2, 2010. Her second attempt started at Cabo San Lucas on February 6, 2010, in a solo, non-stop and unassisted circumnavigation which was successful until she was reportedly missing.
