American Samoa is a territory of the United States on the South Pacific Ocean. It is located to the southeast of Samoa. Their population is less than the number of people who can fit into a football stadium, roughly 57,000 people. It is slightly bigger than Washington, D.C. and is the southernmost territory of the U.S.
This little territory has more players to the National Football League than anywhere else in America that is that small. It has been proven that boys from Samoa or ones born to Samoan parents are 56 times more likely to be put into the NFL than other American people. On Sunday’s 60 Minutes Scott Pelley told us all about this place.
Generally, people from Samoa are larger than others. But not only are they large in size, they are also quite fast at running. This is a huge advantage for football players, which explains why the six high schools in Samoa have sent 10 linemen to the NFL. Aside from this, they are also made to do many chores, which help them build strength and stamina. It is great that these kids are becoming football players, since they can go to college through scholarships.
