While most stars and their fans would be celebrating as they usher in the New Year, one star may not be so jubilant for the first few days of 2010. Instead of basking in the joy of being alive for one more year in the company of friends and family, Artie Lange is spending the first days of the month in the hospital. He was rushed to a local hospital in New Jersey for undisclosed reasons.  The Howard Stern Show regular’s representative released a statement stating that all information regarding his hospitalization is to be kept confidential—between doctor and patient only.

For the past few weeks, the comedian’s apparent absence from the Howard Stern Show was noted. In response to this, the titular host has mentioned that up and until Lange chooses to return to the show, his slot will be open and waiting for him. Other than the noted absence, he has also cancelled most stand up comedy gigs, including one that would have been staged for the New Year’s. His schedule for February has also been wiped clean.

There have been speculations that the recent hospital trip could be caused by the actor’s personal demons in the form of an unhealthy diet and lifestyle, owing to his apparent weight problem. He has also been found to be indulging in recreational drugs leading to substance abuse issues. In addition, Lange also has sleep apnea which is implied to be causing weight gain. However, there is no means of validation as of now.

Artie Lange is known for his being a regular on the Howard Stern Show, referred to as the latter’s side kick. He is also one of the original cast members for MadTV.
