Bonanza is a popular television show from the American company NBC which has been immortalized over the years through its popularity and re-runs. It started on September 12, 1959 and ended on January 16, 1973. It showed for 14 seasons and is the second longest series from the West.
The title is a word which referred a large amount of silver found in Virginia City called Comstock Lode, and the word came from the Spanish word meaning “fair weather” and “prosperity”. The series had 430 episodes all in all, and Chevrolet was its main sponsor.
The show was about the Cartwright family and Ben Cartwright, who was a thrice-widowed patriarch. He had three sons, one from each wife. The show focused on their relationships with each other, their land, and their neighbors on Ponderosa ranch.
Recently, the actor Pernell Roberts, who acted as Adam Cartwright in the series, died at the age of 81. He was the last living member of the series, and he has finally joined his co-actors. He left Bonanza after a few years because he didn’t like the series any longer. He then continued to appear in shows like Mission Impossible and Ironside. Our wishes are with this famous Bonanza star’s family.
