Ingmar Guandique, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador goes to court on Monday for the 2001 murder of former Washington D.C. Intern, Chandra Levy.

Chandra Levy was serving as an intern at the Federal Bureau of Prisons when she suddenly disappeared in May of 2001. Later, her body was found in a wooded section of the city’s Rock Creek Park. Initial police investigations linked former congressman Gary A. Condit to the killing.

Reports claimed that Mr. Condit had a “romantic relationship” with Ms. Levy. The Congressman, who is currently writing a book about his experiences, denied the accusations as well as the relationship with the former intern.

As the investigation progressed, Mr. Condit’s name was slowly retracted from the murder case. Due to circumstantial evidences, investigators believed that the former congressman had nothing to do with Ms. Levy’s death. However, his presence will continue to hang over the trial. Bert Fields, spokesman for Mr. Condit, said that the former congressman was expected to be called as a witness at the trial of Ingmar Guandique, and added that Mr. Condit will cooperate fully with the authorities.

There are strong evidences that suggest Ingmar Guandique was indeed the prime suspect for the disappearance and murder of Ms. Chandra Levy. First was the place where Ms. Levy’s body was found. Investigators said that the park was the place where Guandique was convicted of assaulting 2 women back in 2001.

Another one was the fact that Guandique made numerous confessions to other inmates. During a pretrial hearing last month, Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Haines said Guandique has a “signature confession style.” She said he has discussed killing Levy with many people, giving each person starkly different details.

The mysterious disappearance and death of Ms. Chandra Levy is yet to be solved until the true perpetrator is convicted. Everyone is hoping that justice will finally be served.
