About 113,000 customers of DTE Energy Co. and CMS Energy Corp. lost power after a fire in Detroit, Michigan toppled power lines last Tuesday, September 7.
It was suspected that the dead tree branches which have fallen into the electric lines had started the flame. Such reason has not been confirmed by authorities yet since investigation is still ongoing. About 24 homes were destroyed and the fire lasted for four hours Tuesday afternoon.
Moreover, gust and dry conditions around the area have contributed to the difficulty of putting out the fire. On one hand, Detroit fire fighters referred to the lack of equipment and lack of manpower as the main cause of trouble in eliminating the 85 fires that erupted that afternoon.
Meanwhile, Scott Simons expressed that they have sent out investigators to confirm the real cause behind the sudden burst of flames. He also said that the thirty-eight thousand customers who remained without power will have to wait until Thursday for the power service to be restored.
So far, the fire did not result to any injuries. Initial investigations also suggest that no fire-raising occurred. Locations of fire were identified to be at Hendrie and Dubois streets, Quinn Street and Van Dyke, McClellan Street, Murray Street, Carpenter and Fenelon streets, Luce Avenue and Bloom Street, Moenart Street, Curtis and Livernois Avenue, Plainview Avenue and Evergreen road.
