Earthquake in Puerto Rico

With series of earthquakes that had just passed with the South American continent being rattled by earthquakes just this year, with the most devastating that happened in Chile earlier this year and to Peru which took place just a few weeks ago, no doubt that Puerto Ricans had been traumatized and feared the earthquake that had struck their country early this morning.

Per the records of the United States Geological Survey, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake with a depth of 110 kilometer had struck the Caribbean Island early Sunday. The said earthquake is neither that strong nor intensified but was able to create tantamount of fear and terror to the people. Reports stated that the epicenter of the earthquake has been detected in the city of Moca.

Like Haiti which had just been recently visited by strong earthquake that caused massive destruction to the place, Puerto Rico sits close to a major plate boundary and has a history of damaging quakes in its vicinity during the years 1670, 1787 (possibly a magnitude 8.0), 1867 (magnitude 7.5) and 1918 (magnitude 7.5). There were no major damages or casualties reported. There had just been a lost of power but was eventually restored after a while.
