Former NFL player Daryl Johnston was gratefully mentioned by Emmitt Smith for Johnston’s sacrifices and contribution to his success during his Hall of Fame Induction speech in Canton, Ohio on August 7, 2010. Johnston was Smith’s fullback and the two were a great duo in the field.
Smith was moved to tears when he called up Johnston to stand up in recognition. According to him, people would not be able to understand what it is to be a fullback in their system and he was very grateful for all the sacrifices of Johnston to make their moves in the field become a success. He also said that Johnston had taken care of him like a little brother. Smith had debated that Johnston be selected as presenter of the award but eventually decided to go on with owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
The two partnered for 10 years and were known the best tailback-fullback duo in the history of NFL where the Dallas Cowboys won three Super Bowls in four years. According to Johnston, the uniqueness of their results is due to their relationship partners in the field. They shared a different closeness where they always sat together in team meetings and even individual meetings.
