Disney Playdom in collaboration with ESPN recently unveiled a new game app on Facebook – ESPNU College Town. This is the first game / facebook app made by Playdom after its acquisition by Disney.

The game, based on campus management and college sports, is a strategy browser game which lets you supervise your own university, handle its finances and have control of your own athletics department. The game play is like any other browser game from Facebook but with a new twist, you need to recruit players for your teams, become a great college sport dynasty while trying to improve your virtual campus and make it to the top as a premiere university. The game features a list of 60 US universities to choose from and connect too, including the actual uniforms and mascots.

We’re not sure where ESPN contributes in the game given that it is a sports network and the game plays like a real-time strategy game with minimal sports-like game plays (maybe because there is an in-game virtual ESPN magazine which gives your player rank among others). In any case you can prove your sports management skills by competing with other players on Facebook. Additionally, players can let their athletic department gain reputation by recruiting the best players (options include buying them with coins or with in-game cash) to beef up their teams.

There’s a good possibility that the game would be a success for college students on Facebook given the stiff competition and loyalty among them especially when it comes to their Alma mater.
