Eve Ensler (a playwright, performer, activist and feminist)is the creator of a famous play entitled ‘The Vagina Monologues’. This play’s plot includes different monologues that is somehow related to the vagina such as in sex, love, rape, menstruation, mutilation, masturbation, birth or orgasm. But in the entirety of the play, a single theme recurs of the female private part being used as a powerful tool for female empowerment.
This famous episodic play that has gathered numerous awards is a yearly staple for the month of February all over the US in support of Eve Ensler’s worldwide organization ‘V-day’.
The V-day has for more than ten years been raising and spreading awareness about violence against women and children. This global movement aims to promotes creative events such as ‘The Vagina Monologues’ so that men and women, old and young will have a better awareness and knowledge of violence to women and children.
Through the artistic activities, the organization hope to be able to raise funding to revitalize the essence of on-hand anti-violence associations. V-day continues to spawn more extensive interest to fight and stop aggression against women and girls( be it rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation or sexual slavery. V-day’s vision is to see a world where women can live safely and freely.
