Posted by Former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino is caught smack in the middle of the split between Antwaun Cook and his wife, Paula. Divorce papers were recently filed by Mrs. Cook in a North Carolina court, claiming that her husband and Barrino have even filmed some of their illicit sexual activities. Barrino and Cook’s “covert adulterous affair”, as Mrs. Cook calls it, has allegedly been going on since August 2009. Paula Cook has filed a complaint and is now seeking custody of their two children, child support, and alimony.
Barrino’s lawyer, Gena Morris, rejected all rumors pointing to Barrino as the party responsible for the break-up and declared that Mrs. Cook is just aspiring for publicity by dragging Barrino into the picture and sensationalizing the case.
Brian Dickens, Barrino’s manager, has also defended the R&B singer. Dickens is adamant that Barrino is “not responsible” for the couple’s estrangement. He amends that it is uncertain if Barrino really was romantically involved with Cook or not, but maintained that she is not to be blamed for the split. Barrino had, in the past, denied the rumors of her involvement with Cook, despite having gotten the word “Cook” tattooed on her shoulder.
Barrino is not being sued, but it is notable that North Carolina is one of the seven states where the “home-wrecker” law applies. A complaint such as what Paula Cook has filed is a good first step and the American Idol winner could potentially be in trouble.
