Despite Google being the top search engine in the internet and having a lot of online programs such as Google Earth and Google Maps, Google is not exempted from investigations and complaints in privacy issues.

Google faces investigation from the Federal Communications Commission as it decides whether they broke the federal laws against privacy issues on its street mapping service. This service was said to have collected the consumers’ personal information that was sent over wireless networks.
Google street-mapping service was said to have breached the privacy of its consumers and the FCC is committed to give these people a full and fair accounting from Google. The data collection that had been gathered, lawmakers say, should be “something to look at”.
Last May, the FCC has received a complaint from a privacy advocacy group called Electronic Privacy Information Center, saying that Google had a breach of privacy on its consumers. They asked the investigating group to look as to whether they violated the federal law in terms of electronic eavesdropping. Part of the investigation is seeing if Google street-mapping also got passwords, emails and other personal information from the consumers.
The Federal Trade Commission closed the investigation last month because Google have assured that they never had a privacy breach and never collected personal information from the internet users. It could be that the investigation of the FCC could close down, but until it doesn’t, the US governing board will still investigate on this incident.
Outside of US, Google also faces another headache as U.K. had said that Google had broken their law and asked the company to give an audit of their data collection practices. For now, Google wants to fix things and delete the data they have received regarding this privacy breach. As much as possible, they want to improve internal security and to keep the data of their consumers safe from people who want to do harm.
I don’t know with Google, but I do hope they fix this because the private information of normal citizens is at stake here. I also hope they really don’t collect private information because that makes people scared and hopefully, their plans of improving security will be done soon.
