The snowstorm which started last February 5 continues to pour down and wreak havoc to US residents from Northern Virginia to New York. The national Weather Service has announced a prediction that the US capital may possibly have a 14 inches deep pile of snow by Wednesday night.
For the fourth day on Thursday, February 11, 2010, U.S. federal offices will yet be closed again due to the effect of the unusual downpour of snow that caused a loss of approximately 100 million US dollars a day. With the possibility of being closed again on Friday, February 12, the shutdown already means that the event has reached an unchartered territory.
The continuous torrent of snow also caused affected residents to dig out from the snowfall ranging from 18 inches (46 cm) to 32 inches (81 cm) since last weekend in areas from Washington to southern New Jersey. Citizens have been clearing trees that have fallen and also re-stocking their pantries and refrigerators.
Additional power outages are expected as weather forecasts have predicted more snow along with strong winds. Until now, there are still more than 10 thousand customers in the Washington site whose powers are not yet restored as subways and bus services are still on a limited service.
But workers will still have to work from home so that business will not totally be halted.
