The word ‘doppelganger’ refers to the ghostly double or look-alike of a living person. This term is supposed to imply some sinister and and creepy impression.
However, this supposed creepiness was not all the notion Facebook users felt nor thought when one avid user sent a message that says “It’s Doppelganger week on Facebook; change your profile picture to someone famous (actor, musician, athlete, etc.) you have been told you look like. After you update your profile with your twin or switched at birth photo then cut/paste this to your status.”
It started the hit of the latest trend in the social networking site which prompted users to search for a free online internet application that a allows them to upload their own picture then this software will then search for their celebrity look-alike. The resulting would then be posted and updated accordingly to their individual profiles.
Although, there was a bit confusion of such action is in accordance with Facebook’s term of service that says users are not to post any content that may violate a person’s rights and that Facebook can remove such materials should there be any. But until now, no single user has been punished yet. This social event is known to run from February 1-7.
