Gails Monfils “toughness” wasn’t tough enough against Nadal.
Another intense and exciting tennis court action transpired in the US Open as Spain’s Rafael Nadal and Frenchman Gail Monfils battled it out in the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Monfils (rank #13) outran Nadal (rank #3) in the first set (7-6). Nadal, in return, retained his composure and concentration to rally and outplay Monfils – who ran out of “juice” — in the succeeding sets with (3-6, 1-6, 3-6).
Rafael Nadal bagged the slot in the quarter finals where he will face another tough competitor, Fernando Gonzalez of Chile (rank #11) to advance in the semis.
On Women’s Singles, USA’s Serena Williams (rank#2) defeated Flavia Penetta (rank #10) of Italy (6-4, 6-3) and will advance to the Semi final round. There she will face another top competitor and former US Open Champion, Kim Clijsters (Belgium) – the one who defeated her sister Venus during the 4rth round.
This one will either be a sweet revenge for Williams or a Grand Slam victory for Clijsters.
