Not a week after the death of Yankees PA announcer, Bob Sheppard, New York Yankees grief has escalated by the death of its owner, “the Boss” George Steinbrenner. Steinbrenner died on Tuesday after suffering from a heart attack. He was rushed from his home to the Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa Florida and died there at six thirty a.m.

Steinbrenner began his ownership career in 1973 when he bought the Bronx Bombers from CBS. He was chairman of the board of the American Ship Building Co.
Known for being a man with an iron fist when it comes to the ownership of the Yankees, he was popular for his strict rules and difficult ways of disciplining the whole Yankees team. He once clashed with Yogi Berra and became a more controversial personality when he fired Yankees manager Billy Martin.
As his health declined, he let his sons Hal and Hank run the business. The Yankees were able to earn seven World Series trophies since Steinbrenner’s service as the principal owner of the team
Steinbrenner will always be remembered as the man dressed in his trademark navy blue blazer and white turtleneck, truly a model of success. Steinbrenner is survived by his wife, Joan, his children Hank, Hal, Jennifer and Jessica and his grandchildren.
