Actor Glenn Shadix died recently inside his house in Birmingham, Alabama Tuesday morning. He was 58. No immediate cause of death was released but initial reports say it was due to an accident. The family statement was that Shadix hit his head when he fell in his wheelchair in the Kitchen.

Born as Glenn S. Scott in Birmingham, Shadix spent his boyhood in Bessemer. Openly gay even as a teenager and admitted that he underwent therapy to become straight. He went to college in Birmingham-Southern College to study acting.
The late actor was discovered by director Tim Burton who coincidently was watching Shadix in a stage play portraying Gertrude Stein, a female American painter and thinker. In 1988, Burton cast him to portray Otho in the flick, Beetlejuice, alongside Winona Rider and Michael Keaton. The movie has catapult Shadix as a character actor in the silver screen.
Both Burton and Shadix became close friends and collaborated in two more movies, The Nightmare Before Christmas in 1993, and the remake of Planet of the Apes in 2001. He also became a mainstay in television as the landlord of Jerry in the hit comedy series Seinfeld.
On Saturday, memorial will be held to his honor in Birmingham.
