The earthquake that hit Haiti less than two weeks ago devastated everyone on the little island. Although there are many goods and relief efforts being sent over, it takes time for people to really feel the efforts of the world to help them get out of this situation. Because of this, George Clooney and other celebrities decided to make the “Hope For Haiti Now” telethon.
The telethon lasted two hours, and there were no commercial breaks. There were many different musicians from Springsteen to Madonna and many more who performed their inspiring songs in different parts of the world like New York, London, and Los Angeles studios.
Aside from the musicians, many celebrities like Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts, Steven Spielberg, and Ringo Starr answered phone calls to donate to Haiti. Anderson Cooper from CNN reported updates on Haiti, showing everyone exactly what happened.
All of the money coming from the telecast will be donated to Oxfam America, the Red Cross, UNICEF, and other volunteer organizations. So far, there are no numbers as to the amount of money. The recordings from the performances will also be available today on iTunes for 99 cents per song. The money from this will also go directly to Haiti.
