Last Thursday night, January 14, 2010, Jeron Lewis died after a massive head injury he got during a game versus Kentucky Wesleyan College in the Owensboro Sports Center. He had played for Southern Indiana and had been playing for two seasons, with an average of 12.2 points per match. Only four minutes before the end of the game, he had an accident. The team won 74-69 but lost one of their best players.
The accident came suddenly and no one saw it coming. His feet got tangled and he tripped and fell onto the hard court at the Sports Center. He was being attended to by trainers when he began convulsing. He was taken to the Owensboro Mercury Health System, where he was taken care of until he died. He died at 9:52pm and there is an autopsy scheduled for January 15, 2010.
Lewis was 6 feet 8 inches and he weighed 260 pounds. He left behind his infant son who was born in December. He missed two games in order to be there for his birth. He also leaves behind his fiancé, mother, and sister. Everyone at the university mourns his untimely passing. He was a good student and a great player.
