John Q is a film released in 2002 which stars Denzel Washington as John Quincy Archibald. John Quincy Archibald is featured as a father to a child who has an enlarged heart and cannot have a transplant because of lack of money. He then hostages the hospital’s patients until they put his son’s name on the recipient’s list.

The film also casts Anne Heche, James Woods, Ray Liotta, Eddie Griffin, Robert Duvall and others. The story was set in Chicago but it was actually filmed in Toronto, Hampton, Ontario and Canmore, Alberta.
The plot includes 11 hostages. One of them, Miriam is a pregnant woman who hopes to deliver his first child healthy. A young hostage named Julie was also featured as having a broken arm allegedly due to a car accident but in truth her boyfriend Mitch beat her up.
Later on, the hostages slowly understood John Q’s action. Then the SWAT entered the scene where snipers were shot through an air shaft. As a result, John Q was wounded but was treated by the emergency staff. He then requested his son’s presence and said that “I am not going to bury my son; my son is going to bury me!”
John Q during the later parts of the movie attempted to commit suicide but was stopped by his wife. Later, he was acquitted of charges of attempted murder and armed criminal action but was found guilty of kidnapping.
