Jon Stewart, leading critic of media enhanced politics, recently announced in his program “The Daily Show” that he will be holding a rally in the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., on October 30, 2010, which will be called the “Rally to Restore Sanity” .
Well, Stewart is known to create parody of political events. Coincidently, Glenn Beck, an American conservative and radio/TV broadcaster held a rally on the same venue last August 28, 2010 wherein the rally entitled “Restoring Honor” was held.
In that rally, Beck told the crowd in an animated delivery, that a spirit is screaming at him and wants to be heard, and he asked the crowd to pray that he may be able to hear the screams and let the spirit talk through him. The statement he made about the “spirit” gathered reactions and mockery from the media that even some even speculated that he was on the verge of insanity or already insane.
On the other hand, Jon Stewart’s preconceived comic protest does not directly point to Beck’s mind condition (even though the phrase “restore sanity” is in the title), but simply a parody of political rally (Restoring Honor) made by Mr. Beck. The Daily Show funnyman is inviting people who never went to rallies (because they had better things to do in their life), to go and join “The Rally to Restore Sanity”.
