In the National Football League (NFL), the New England Patriots recently traded Running Back, Laurence Maroney, to the Denver Broncos. New England also traded their fourth round pick in the future 2011 NFL Draft in exchange for Denver’s pick in the sixth round.
Confirmation of the trade came from the Patriots’ management. There was no disclosure why the trade was made, though some speculators say that this must be because of him being prone to injury.
Laurence Maroney, 25, is the first pick of the New England Patriots in the 2006 NFL Draft and 21st overall in the first round. He had been marred with injuries throughout his career as a professional football player and had been put in the injured reserve list more than once while playing for the Patriots.
Maroney accumulated injuries – ranging from a broken shoulder, a knee injury, a torn rib cartilage and lately, an injured thigh – during 4 years of his professional career with the Patriots. He only played in forty-five games and only fourteen as a starter. In 2008, he only saw action in three games for the season. In professional football, for a first pick in the draft, that is unimpressive. His struggles with these injuries made him more a liability than a help with the New England Patriots.
