An article on inquirer.net tackled the whitehouse.gov, the official website of current U.S. President Barrack Obama. He is currently known as the “Internet President” because of his advocacy of available online communications to reach more people. The White House has set up accounts on My Space, Facebook and Twitter. Aside from those, Mr. Obama also made online accounts on Flickr, Youtube, Vimeo and itunes.
Online status of Malacanang Palace?
We tried searching for any websites connected to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and The Malacanang Palace. No websites were found for Malacanang Palace but connected to Mrs. Arroyo, We found 2; 1) Office of the President and 2) The Philippine Government website. Unfortunately, both websites were not working.
It was quite disappointing to witness how our current President doesn’t regard the Internet as a tool to help communicate with the majority of Filipinos. You probably know the fact that having a website is one of the cheapest way to communicate, make business and be discovered today. In business they say, “if you’re not online you’re nothing”. It would be nice if the next President in line would consider improving the I.T. sector of our country.
Building a website nowadays is cheap as well as availing a webhost. We would be very surprise if Malacanang’s alibi for not having a good quality website is because of Time and Money. C’mon, give us a break! I remember accessing the website of SSS (Social Security System) and GSIS (Government Service Insurance System) and I was stuck and “frozen” while trying to retrieve information about the government’s loan program. How pathetic!
Change is the key
If Filipinos would like to have a better future, change is imperative. Old and “worn” out ideas should be placed 6ft under. Remember this: “Change the way you think and you will change the way you live”. In our world today, everybody is gearing towards technological advancement. Not that everything new is “good”, of course we should adapt only good ideas to make our lives better.
Future of Information Technology (I.T.) sector in the Philippines
More and more Filipinos are becoming adepth on using the internet not only for entertainment but education as well. Soon, Filipinos would realize the advantages and power of the internet. We hope at that time, our government officials will be way ahead of the “pack”. This is an outright challenge for the next President, “Are you willing Mr./Ms. President to become an Internet Savvy official?”
