Former Olympic gold medalist Marion Jones 34, is about to play with Tulsa Shock of the Women’s National Basketball Association after signing a contract. Her three Olympic track gold medals 10 years ago was attributed by some due to steroid use.
Jones 5’10 admits that she may not be a typical rookie in this league, but she will still bring that rookie energy. She said in a press statement that she’s looking forward to competing against the best female athletes in the world in WNBA.
This women’s basketball aspirant is the first female track and field athlete to win five medals at a single Olympics during the 2000 Games in Sydney. She forfeited all five medals in 2007 after admitting use of drugs or steroid. She served six months in a federal prison in 2008 for lying about steroid use and her knowledge of a check-fraud scam involving her ex-boyfriend, sprinter Tim Montgomery.
Jones attended a basketball scholarship at University of North Carolina and helped lead the school to the 1994 national championship. She worked out for several WNBA teams before signing with Tulsa, which is coached by former University of Arkansas men’s coach Nolan Richardson.
