Whirlpool Company thought they had a real invention to help our home-users until the Maytag dishwasher products were recalled.
The Maytag product was sold under the following brand names namely Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, Magic Chef, Crosley and Admiral and over 1.7 million units were bought by consumers since its manufacturing in February 2006.
The said appliances were recalled after it was reported that electrical failures almost caused fires in 12 homes. The Consumer Product Safety Commission which announced the recall on Thursday said Whirlpool confirmed the incidents but said no injuries were reported.
The recalled dishwashers cost from $250 or $900 each and were made with black, bisque, white, silver and stainless steel front panels.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using these and disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling it.
Whirlpool on the other hand, has allotted $75 million to cover costs made by the dishwashers. These includes giving a rebate of $150 or $250 for the purchase of distinct newly produced and improved Maytag dishwashers or one may phone-in repairs.
The recall is the second scare for Maytag when it recalled 1.6 million of refrigerators in May 2009 for the same fire hazard risks.
