It was an announcement last August 16, 2010 that no one was prepared for, actor Michael Douglas has throat cancer. He stated that a medical diagnosis has found a tumor, the size of a wallnut below his tongue. He acknowledged the cause to be due probably to his excessive drinking and smoking.
But what’s even more serious is that recently in the television show “Late Show with David Letterman” the actor declared that it’s in the last stage (Stage IV). Apparently, the finding in the initial check-up was incomplete and this made the actor furious. After taking a biopsy, the doctors told him that the tumor spread beyond the initial area.
The news came as a shock because it was thought that the cancer was at its initial stages and can still be prevented to spread, but the recent acknowledgement of its advance stages says otherwise. Still, the actor is very positive of his recovery.
Douglas, 65, has won two Academy awards as a producer and as an actor, and three Golden Globe awards. His movies include such hits as Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction, and Disclosure. He is married to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, 40 and they have two kids, Dylan Michael, 10 and Carys Zeta, 7. His father is the equally famous actor Kirk Douglas, 93. More details on the clip below.
