At Los Angeles California, participants of the Electronic Entertainment Expo expected Microsoft to showcase their Kinect device which allows players to play video games using their bodies and voices instead of standard video game controllers. But they were in for a surprise when Microsoft showed a slimmer Xbox 360 which would be retailed at $299!
The new model specifications include a hard drive space up to 250 gigabytes which is two times than that of the current one. It also includes built-in Wi-Fi capability compared to the current Xbox models which needs an accessory to access Xbox Live and online features wirelessly.
Don Mattrick, the company’s senior vice president of interactive entertainment said that the new Xbox is smaller and “whisper quiet” and is designed for the future of entertainment. Microsoft also announced that they’re in a deal with ESPN to deliver free access to more than 3,500 live sports events yearly for Xbox Live subscribers which will cost at $50.
The newly reconstructed Xbox 360 used with the newly launched Kinect (formerly named Project Natal) will surely make Microsoft find itself in the competitive video game industry. Other known competitors in the industry include Nintendo and Sony.
