We have seen a lot of famous personalities and a few government officials who have their own Facebook accounts in order to interact with the public. Now, another famous person is part of the social networking site: Queen Elizabeth II.

The British Monarch now has an official presence in Facebook by doing series of official pages in order to let her people know about the royal events and news. But, the page is not a personal page, but rather a corporate page where users can “like” it so they can receive updates on the royal engagements, events and other ceremonies with just a click away.
It will also feature the Court Circular, where they will be recording and reporting on previous royal engagements and events to let people know what the Queen was doing the past days. The users can leave messages, comments and suggestions for Buckingham Palace to know what the public thinks.
The royal officials have been discussing the Facebook idea since the British Monarch has been open to the web already and have been sending and receiving emails. The FB page was approved by the queen, even though she has yet to use it herself.
According to the royal official, who did not want to be named, that the queen immediately approved and thought it was a good idea because “If you’re going to have an online presence in 2010, you just have to be on Facebook.”
The Facebook page will be up and going on Monday, November 8, 2010 and contains photos, videos, and news items. The Facebook page already has 15,780 fans (and still growing) and the queen’s photo has been uploaded already.
Aside from Facebook, the queen also has accounts in Flickr that started earlier this year, Twitter which started last year and the Royal Channel in YouTube last 2007.
This just show how big Facebook has become because even higher officials such as the Queen have entered its world in order to interact more with her people. Hopefully, this will be a good tool in improving things that needed to be improved in the country.
