Red Bull Flugtag 2010 held its flight competition in Long Beach, California last August 21, 2010. Thirty five teams attempted flight at the 30-foot high flight deck with their homemade, human-powered flying machines.

The criteria for judging were the flight distance, creativity of the flying craft and showmanship. Though most crafts immediately splashes into the water, spectators applauded the creativity of the craft as flying tacos, winnebagos with wings, prehistoric pterodactyls, and even Snoopy and the gang appeared in the competition.
A team from Windows engineered a glider and successfully flew a few feet before splashing into the water. They called it the Windows Project Phoenix. Ben Rudolph, a public relations manager for Windows and one of the pushers, said he estimated that their craft flew about 30 feet. Rudolph said that it was not far enough as they wanted but they had a great time and had an idea what to do next time. He also commented that his favorite performance was from the U.S. Coast Guard who flew and crashed a papier mache helicopter in the water, then sent in a real Coast Guard helicopter to rescue their team.
The event had 105,000 people watching and applauding. It was after a year that no red Bull Flugtags were held in the US and the 2010 Long Beach Flugtag was said to be a better and bigger event comparing to previous Flugtag competitions.
