Hollywood mourns again as one of its actresses die. Rue McClanahan, often called as one of the “Golden Girls” dies at the age of 76 with a stroke.
Born in Oklohama, she started acting in New York in 1957 but debuted on Broadway’s production Jimmy Shine. She then went on from show to show until she appeared in the 1985 television comedy-show Golden Girls. She portrayed Blanche Devereaux and received an Emmy for her role in 1987.
Although known as a vegetarian, in 1997, she was diagnosed with breast cancer but survived the ordeal. She had a triple bypass surgery and went in and out of the hospital for minor stroke until she succumbed to her death suffering stroke and brain hemorrhage.
She is also known as a woman with principles when she decided to be an animal advocate and a known Democrat. She leaves her only son in her first marriage, Mark Bish.
Fellow Golden Girls co-star Betty White mourns her passing considering her to be a dear friend. White, now at 88, is the sole surviving star of the Golden Girls cast considering that Estelle Getty died in 2008 while Bea Arthur died in 2009. The said show centers on the four girls sharing a single Miami home which aired until May 9, 1992.
