St. Patrick’s Day is what most people think as a famous Irish celebration every March 17 for thousands of years now. It is when people wears green, goes to church in the morning, and night clubs in most parts of Ireland are temporarily closed out of respect for the occasion. As a commemoration to a Catholic Saint, it is trivial no note that it crosses through Lent Season, but people gets to eat meat and does various means of merrymaking.
It is a prevalent Irish tradition but it has been adapted in the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, Singapore, and Russia. In fact, the first time Irish men marched down for St. Patrick’s was on March 17, 1762 down the New York City street. Up to this time, Chicago River is also dyed green every year on this date.
Australia does not have St. Patrick’s Day as a public holiday but its fever is given toast of green drinks in restaurants and nightclubs. Such type of celebration is also happening in Singapore. Russia, Japan, and Canada held outs parade for the Irish community.
This festivity is not confined to being a religious celebration. People of different beliefs and backgrounds has grown accustom to the long parades while others use this day as a commercialize event for throwing out parties.
