The one and only child of veteran TV newsman Ted Koppel who is Andrew Koppel died at the age of 40. Andrew is said to be an attorney for the city Housing Authority and ever since has been known to have faced drinking problems. Consequently, this drinking problem has caused him to end his life irresponsibly.
A waiter named Russell Wimberly whom he met a few hours at a bar on a Monday noon was his last drinking partner. Wimberly said that he was sure Andrew did not take any drugs, or eat any food, but only drank and drank lots of alcohol. At 11pm, Wimberly brought Andrew to the apartment of Belinda Caban, Wimberly’s friend, stopping on the way to buy some more alcohol. Wimberly added that Andrew was already a mess and not feeling well. He was left to sleep but was later found dead.
Andrew is said to be unmarried but had a live-in partner who was his long-time girlfriend and with whom he had a baby with. His alcohol problems led him to punch a senatorial aide and to face a drunk-driving accident in the past. His father Ted Koppel mourns the passing of his son whom he had outlived.
