Preckwinkle is an African-American who struggled and stood in becoming the first woman elected County Board President.
In her victory speech in front of her cheering supporters, the fresh from winning Preckwinkle announced about the visible mark that ends taxation and patronage. She promised to provide her constituents with an open and transparent government. According to her, a government entirely lacking with transparency and accountability has resulted to some disastrous consequences. She claims that she will insist and demand for monthly financial reports for the county health system that encompasses more than 30% of the county budget. This also includes revenue and expenses scales or benchmark as she said that citizens deserve to be aware of where their tax dollars are being spent.
Still quoted from her speech, she declared that she will carry out zero-based budgeting in order to recognize the inefficiencies in the budget. She even affirmed on her intention to follow President Obama’s example. Her priorities included the proper addressing of the County Jail overcrowding, a high-quality health care system and a safe and rationalized justice system as well as the best possible management of taxes.
