The American broadband and communications company Verizon has recently agreed with the Federal Communications Commission to refund as much as $90 million to its customers for improper charges in the billing statements.

Verizon Wireless has acknowledged the error and will award refunds to customers because of overcharging for the past two years. It came after the FCC was alarmed on the number of complaints filed against Verizon Wireless last year about their billing statements being overcharged, prompting the commission to make an inquiry and delve further into the matter.
After further investigations were made by the FCC it was found out that Verizon Wireless had been overcharging its customers in their billing statement by adding $1.99 per megabyte for data usage fees they never even knew that they were using. FCC claims that the overcharging had been going on for two years and despite customers complaining about it, they were ignored by Verizon.
Verizon Wireless released a statement last Sunday that they will pay all the 15 million customers who were affected by the billing error. The FCC applauded the voluntary payment made by the wireless service but also stated that it will still penalize Verizon Wireless for their irresponsibility to notify their customers beforehand and for letting the incident go on for several years.
