The 1985 song ‘We are the World’ was a composition of Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Back then, it was already a song purposefully recorded for charity reasons by supergroup USA for Africa. The famous artists who sang the original version were Stevie Wonder, Cindy Lauper, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Huey Lewis, Bruce Springsteen, Kim Carnes, Dion Warwick, Kenny Logins, Ray Charles, Willie Nelson and many more.
While in the recent version some of the artists who participated were Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Fergie, Josh Groban, LL Cool J, Nick Jonas, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus and Wyclef Jean. Lil Wayne, took the spot which Bob Dylan sang in the original version, this time with an AutoTune in his singing part.
On this year of 2010, artists of the present era have again joined forces as they all unite in re-recording the 1985 hit song. This time again, the song, with its modified lyrics, is intended to raise fund for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. The video premiered last Friday night during the opening of the Vancouver Olympics. This 2010 version is again organized by Lionel Richie, in collaboration with Quincy Jones, Lady Gaga, RedOne and Will.i.am.
By Sunday morning after the world heard this remake, it was already the number 1 downloaded single from iTunes and was viewed four million times in YouTube.
