A wheelbarrow is a hand-pushed vehicle having just one wheel. It is designed to be guided by a one person holding on to two handles. The “wheelbarrow” word is made of two words namely a “wheel” that which turns to move vehicles and “barrow” of the Old English “bearwe” which depicts a device used for carrying loads. Put together, it’s one for carrying loads with wheels.
Its invention was a culmination of already existing components namely the wheel, the barrow and the ideas of leverage. They were perfected to co-mingle in a single unit helpfully advance in labor and production that is still used up to this date.
The wheelbarrow is a sign of progress but in a recent graduation of Laughlin High School, it was used by the salutatorian named Brittany Chase in her speech.
Chase told a story about a high-wire walker and a man he invited to ride in a wheelbarrow on a tightrope saying the ride would have to be uncertain and scary, “you’ll have to decide whether or not to get into the wheelbarrow… and when that time comes, I hope you will swallow your fear and get into the wheelbarrow.”
It was made to reflect of what lies ahead in their future and the opportunities they are willing to take.
