The latest snowstorm that hit the United States since the 1920s has started to cast its terror last February 5 which placed into a state of paralysis a few of the eastern American states(New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia and even the nation’s capital Washington DC) during the weekend. Airports were closed, traffic was halted and over 200,000 households and business establishments were left without electricity. Some private and government agencies, like the OPM, were also closed for service during the start of the week following the natural incident.
As of now, the downpour of snow continues to happen which forces even the WMATA to offer limited Metrorail service to the public. On Tuesday, February 09, 2010 the train system will be opened at 5 o’clock in the morning and would possibly be closed at an earlier time based on how the weather will progress since additional snow and below-freezing temperatures are predicted.
According to the news bulletin, fifteen stations shall stay closed as a result of the thick pile of snow and heavy snow drifts on the tracks. Metrobus will also offer a limited service starting at % AM. while MetroAccess shall have restricted operation starting from 8 AM until noon time on Tuesday but for passengers who needs transportation due to associated medical requirements like chemotherapy and dialysis. Soon after, MetroAccess will provide return-trips only for those customers previously described.
