Remember Acer’s first ultrabook revealed last September called “S3”? Well, it appears the company is not sitting duck all along and after a couple months of wait, its new successor, the Acer Aspire S5, is now introduced on CES week touted as the “world’s thinnest ultrabook”.
Starting with its looks, the new svelte measures with a razor thin edge of 15mm from its maximal point, weighs-in for less than 3 lbs., packs 13.3-inch LCD and its chassis is curved in Onyx Black color wrapping the whole unit for added protection along with its magnesium-alluminum alloy cover for a “slimmer and sturdier form”.
While Acer is still tight-lipped about S5’s full specifications, the company did confirm it will run an Intel Core CPU, SSD storage for fast data-transfer and to ensure its sexy / lightweight body; Acer Green Instant technology for fast boot and resume within 1.5 seconds, HDMI output, USB 3.0 port, 20 Gbps Thunderbolt and MagicFlip port said to be infused first on the Aspire S5 located below its hinge ensuring design integrity and keeping the ultrabook slim.

Like anyone’s guess, this is Acer’s answer for Apple’s upcoming Macbook Air this year or that rumored Hybrid Macbook combining the high-end features of Pro and the sexiness of Air all on a bigger screen display (15 or 17-inch).
Expect its price to be competitive hitting its release on Q2 (April-June) this year.
