Computex 2010 really had a blast as it showcased new and different gadgets that we should expect to see in different stores soon. As many new gadgets had been paraded, it is really difficult to get the attention of the public and focus on just one device since everything had their own feature to boast. And like most of the gadgets, some had remained a wallflower as some had already overshadowed them. And one, which didn’t get much attention during the event, was the Acer’s Blackberry look- a-like smartphone.
The Acer beTouch E130 is a Blackberry/Nokia E72 look-a-like smartphone that is fueled by Android. The smartphone is equipped with a 2.6 inch QVGA touch screen with a 320 x 240 pixel resolution. Though the screen is smaller than most Android phones, its rough-feeling scroll ball is excellent in navigating the menus. Also, it has the trademark Blackberry full QWERTY bar and at the same time like the Nokia E72 has a rubber-like coating to provide nice typing/texting experience. It will be available in black and white colors.
The smartphone packs all the basic feature as it includes a 3.2 megapixel camera (2048×1536 pixel quality), optical navigation trackpad, 416MHz ST-Ericsson PNX6715 processor, 256MB of RAM, and 512MB of ROM making the smartphone included in the Acer’s lower end BeTouch line. The same device also has, Wi-Fi, 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD card slot with support of up to 32GB in size and has 3G connectivity. The smartphone also has a quad band support so you can connect to cellular base stations anywhere in the world.
In terms of the Android running the smartphone, It will have the old Android OS V1.6 Donut and for the moment no further details about its upgrade o 2.0 or 2.1. Well, looks like its operating system was way behind other smartphone competitors. Also for its software, it will have access to the Android Market, Gmail, Google maps and other Android featured software.
With all of these, Acer beTouch E130 still looks handsome and awesome device that people should look forward to. Although considered a low end device, its looks and some of its features are still appealing. This gadget has definitely a lot of room for improvement and we hope Acer would consider it. It is expected to be released later this year while pricing and availability is still not made public.
