The NVIDIA Tegra 2 powered 7 incher seems to have compatibility issues with Android 3.0 Honeycomb and according to some industry sources, Google is currently nursing for a solution.
Originally, Android 3.0 has been specifically designed for devices with 10-inch display. It turns out that our friends at Acer found plenty of applications incompatible with their 7-inch tablet that resulted on the company’s decision to hold the launching of the product.
DigiTimes reported that the Iconia Smart is expected to go on sale this July allegedly because of “earthquake related supply shortages”. Engadget says that they asked the company for clarification but Acer declined to comment so we’ll just have to wait and see.
Other manufacturers with 7 inch tablet PCs such as HTC and Samsung such as Galaxy Tab and Flyer are equipped with Android 2.2 and Android 2.3 that is compatible to 7 inch panels respectively.
Acer believes that after the glitch has been resolved, its Iconia Tab A100 will find an area in the market with females among its target buyers. However, the company refuses to give up the latest Android version so we’ll have to wait how the situation transpires.
