It was April when we first saw the announcement of this Acer Android tablet resembling specs fit enough for it to be in the league of high-end green slates in the market. Likewise, double the excitement when the company announced on its fan page last month that Acer Iconia Tab A500 along with Eee Pad Transformer will receive the Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) update on early June – which obviously didn’t arrived.
Likewise, a new leak has been unearthed today from Acer’s German fan page confirming this sweet Honeycomb update will arrive on July 5; the only caveat though is that there were no other mentioned countries, except for Germany to receive this.
For those who are unaware, Android 3.1 is the latest and most stable upgrade for Honeycomb bringing new features like “resizable” Gmail widget letting you peek what’s already inside, bug fixes, a more stable Adobe Flash Player when playing flash-videos; more importantly, it has this “host mode” letting you import pictures directly from your digital camera to your tablet without saving it on the SD card.
Just a refresher, the thing that makes A500 really great is the way how Acer managed to keep its specs on the top – Dual-core Tegra 2 1GHZ CPU, 1080p video playback, 1GB RAM, 5MP / 2MP rear and front cameras, etc – but its price remains sweet under 450 bucks.
Hopefully, this Android 3.1 OTA download on July 5 means, USA and UK will also receive the treat soon.
