As Llano microprocessors were released in the second and third quarter of last year, apparently, AMD was to stop working on their Athlon II and Sempron brands from way back that were often linked to average- or low-priced K10-based processors. Nonetheless, according to recent reports, AMD has introduced two Athlon II X4 CPUs, which are the 638 and the 641. These units were derived from Llano architecture, although they are short of integrated graphics processing units (GPU). The socket remains to be FM1, similar to typical Llano CPUs.

The Athlon II X4 641 had been first introduced in August of 2011 and pointed out to have 4 cores with a 2.8GHz clock rate. A 1MB L2 cache had been integrated on each core with which the chip was incorporated with standard features present in other K10 CPUs. The X4 641 also came with enhanced virus protection as well as virtualization and SIMD support capable of up to SSE3. Retail price for the Athlon II X4 641 is expected at $81.
Similarly, the AMD Athlon II X4 638 has 4 cores, each with a 4MB L2 cache. This unit functions at 2.7GHz and can be easily installed into a power envelope of 65 Watts. Its other features are all similar with the Athlon II 641. While the processor has not yet been made available in stores, the Athlon II 638 comes with a price of $81.
