It was January when we first laid our eyes for this year’s most powerful video card in the form of AMD HD 6990, trouncing the GTX 590 in terms of graphic performance with some hidden issues you may want to look at. Likewise, enthusiasts are wondering how many months would it take for the company to reveal its GPU laptop version.
Well, what do you know? As of today, AMD officially announces the HD Radeon 6990M grabbing the title as the world’s fastest ‘video-card’ for laptops or notebooks. Naturally, its specifications are something only gamers can dream about packing with an engine clock speed of 715 MHz, 1.6 Teraflops of computer power, 1.7 billion transistors; 1120 stream processors and 2GB DDR5 memory.
Naturally, this beast will go alongside with the latest AMD A-series APU notebooks increasing its graphics performance tremendously while maintaining its cost on the minty level.
Meanwhile, the AMD Radeon HD 6990M also includes support for DirectX 11, Stereo 3D and the company’s touted Eyefinity technology supporting up to six displays. It also comes with AMD App Acceleration Technology 6 that directly uses the GPU for improvements on video playback and faster web-browsing experience for Firefox or IE9.
For its price and release date, it will be available on the latest version of Alienware M18X this year, or Clevo P170HM / P150HM gaming laptops. Of course, expect to shell out 15 to 25 benjamins for its minimum rig customization.
