A great computer definitely needs great graphics. That is why GPU companies such as NVIDIA and AMD exists. And speaking of graphic processors, it seems that AMD prepares a big treat!

While the usual HD 6870 and HD 6850 units will still be in place, some leaks revealed that AMD is going to launch three new graphic processors on or before the first quarter of 2011. The said units will be called as the HD 6900 series which will consist of Radeon HD6990, Radeon HD 6970, and Radeon HD6950.
Furthermore, the Radeon team also stated that shipment for the new units could take some time. However, they are expecting to begin the ship around December 13 this year. Meanwhile, prices for the said units were not revealed.
Features for the upcoming HD 6970 includes one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI-E connector, turbo-fan for faster cooling, and a TDP of 300w. On the other hand, Radeon HD 6950 will feature two 6-pin PCI-E connectors and a TDP of 225w. Aside from its built-in turbo fan, the said unit can also work with other fans. Both units will also have 2×DVI, HDMI, 2×mini-DisplayPort for its output interface.
When AMD’s latest GPU series will be released, it will definitely be a tough competitor for NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 480. Which GPU will you pick? We are eager to know about it.
